Cannabidiol (abbreviated as CBD) is of the cannabinoids found in Marijuana. The scientific name for the source is known as Cannabis sativa. It is made up 40% of the total of cannabis extracts. CBD is one of the significant Phytocannabinoids are readily present in Marijuana extracts and they are available in many forms as well as concentrations. The drug is a non-psychoactive drug component meaning that it alters the brain function resulting in behavioral, mood and perceptive changes. On the other hand, CBD oils are basically oils that have high percentages of CBD in them. This makes their uses vary as per the concentration levels in the oils.
Cannabis sativa contains two key components that is the delta-9 tetrahydrocannabiol which is they key ingredient followed by CBD. THC and CBD have varying effects with THC producing a high that distorts the mind. This occurs when it breaks down inside the body as a result of exposure to heat. The breakdown is catalyzed by actual smoking of marijuana or even cooking and in other cases, boiling in water. After ingestion, marijuana is catalyzed by Hydrochloric acid and bile salts in the digestive system to release THC in its active from. THC reacts with the cytoplasm of the cells in the body (somatic cells and neurons) to bring about the ‘high effect’. The high effect is basically lack of coordination between the limbs and the brain.
How does CBD oil function?
Studies show that CBD has little effect on immune receptors (CB1 and CB2) and thus resulting in a slight alteration in the brain function. Due to similarity in composition with cellular material in our bodies the CBD can interact with the body cells that produce endocannabinoids naturally produced in the body,
Preclinical trials conducted over the years have shown that CBD has the several benefits which will be discussed later in details.
Benefits of CBD
• Cannabinoid as a Natural pain reliever/ anti-inflammatory properties
Chronic illnesses such as Fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis are already being treated using CBD. As a natural pain relief, it works through inhibition of pain transmission pathways. It is preferred compared to over-the-counter drugs as a natural way to lower pain. It helps TH17 dominance while suppressing TH1 and TH2 dominance.
• Protection of the neurological system
Studies show that CBD has been used as a safe and effective method of treating Schizophrenia. Cannabinoid is also being studied for possible treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders and epilepsy. The study will include treatment of epilepsy-related conditions such as psychiatric diseases, neuronal injury, and neurodegeneration. Studies have shown that CBD reduces chances if seizure in the body and therefore is being used as a Treating epilepsy and mental health issues
• Helps fight cancer or acts an anti-tumor agent
Reviews have shown that CBD works a CPR55 signal inhibitor of growth and proliferation of cancer cells. CBD produces energy thus facilitating the death of the cancer cells. Its toxicity levels are also minimal and thereby help in cancer treatment. Studies showed that CBD increased tumor cell death of breast, prostate and colon cancers as well as leukemia.
